Timeless: Hand-painted Wallcoverings

Yesterday I had a client give the green light on a Fromental wallcovering I suggested for her main powder room.  Paired with complimentary Venetian plaster, it is going to be one epic little room.  Hand-painted or embroidered wallcoverings are in high demand right now among our clients, and that's good news to us.  They're very expensive works of art, but they are timeless, and a great addition to a number of aesthetics.  More Fromental installations below...
I would do just about anything for hand-painted wallcoverings in our next home, by Fromental, Gracie, or DeGournay, I would not discriminate...
Aerin Lauder's Manhattan home office/dressing room has always been a favorite...
A masterpiece by Miles Redd.... a very similar bed (an old one of my parents') is a contender for the master in our next home, so this look could be inspirational...
Lara Spencer framed some Gracie panels found at an estate sale...
It's a look I don't think I'll ever tire of!
The photo above is of the dining room in the top contender in my personal home search in Connecticut.  Wallcoverings by DeGournay!  I may just sleep in this room if we buy this house...

Banquettes

Being a full-time designer now means a lot less time for blogging!  I am rarely at a desk anymore, unlike the days of yore, when I'd be simultaneously participating in a conference call and reading design blogs.  I've been at non-stop installs on a big project, and this week the kitchen banquette went in.  Excuse the mess, this picture was mid-installation...

The fabric is Zoffany, and it adds a punch to the all-white kitchen.  In New York City kitchens, when cabinet space is at premium, there is often little room for open shelving or glass-fronts to display decor, and windows are usually scarce or even non-existent (although this apartment has none of those problems), so infusing a festive fabric into the room through a banquette is a great way to give the room personality.  Banquettes are an effective use of space as well.  Seen in other beautiful New York kitchens...
Tory Burch kitchen, InStyle
No surprise that Tory Burch's Manhattan kitchen is as stylish as she is.  What a way to add color, and the Tulip chairs and table bring modern edge to her traditional aesthetic...

Kate and Andy Spade's kitchen is typical of the city, a galley style with the eat-in area at the end...

One of my favorite banquettes of all time is not in NYC at all, likely in Toronto, by Sarah Richardson...

I'm just beginning another project that will include a banquette as well... they are all the rage these days.  I'd love one of my own!
